Market Square

Town square marks ancient market place

Home > Explore > Moray > Market Square

The Market Square is a small public space between the Tolbooth and the Mercat Cross.

Although only paved in recent years, the square is actually more of a triangle formed by the building line of the Tolbooth, the high street and the road.

It is here where, beside the Mercat Cross, that markets would be held. Today, markets are rare, however, it is still a gathering place with benches and flowers and sometimes entertainers stop here to perform. See Toun Mercat.
