Kinloss is a village between Forres and Findhorn, and expanded largely due to the RAF base which opened in 1939. It is now an army barracks, but still occupies the largest part of the village.
It is thought that 1000 aircraft were dismantled here after the Second World War.
Kinloss Abbey was built in 1150 by King David. The nearby abbot’s house was famously occupied by Robert Reid. Both buildings are now ruined.
Other attractions in the village include the Woodside Farm Shop, which, as the name suggests, sell farm produce, but it also has a cafe and play centre.
There’s also Morayvia, an aviation museum with an incredible number of exhibits from plane parts trawled up from the seabed to fully restored aircraft.
