This isn’t the middle of nowhere!
There’s plenty to keep you occupied in and around Forres and it also makes an ideal base and starting point from which to explore further afield.
Moray is less than 40 miles from east to west. Inverness is just 25 miles away and even a drive to The Lecht ski centre through the Cairngorms National Park is just a touch over 40 miles, making the whole county less than an hour away, and there’s even more beyond that.

Just look at our map, we’re right in the middle of the whole north and north-east – within easy reach of the entire county of Moray, much of the Highlands and Aberdeenshire, including hotspots such as Speyside, NC500, NE250, Cairngorms and the Snow Roads Scenic Route.
But of course, you’re unlikely to be rushing and there’s lots of reasons to stop along the way.
Slow down – it’s not a race
Your holiday is probably a break from the cut and thrust of your daily working lives. It’s a time to chill and relax. Don’t feel you need to rush from one thing to another, you’ll miss the best of it. People that live here are still discovering new things about the area that they’ve lived in for decades, so you definitely WON’T see everything in a week or a few days.
Stay longer or come back sooner, but whatever you do, take your time.
