This remote body of water is only accessible on foot, but it is well worth the walk.

Also known as Romach Loch or the Romach Reservoir, it has an earth embankment dam to provide the local drinking water supply. It’s about seven miles from Forres and completely surrounded by the woodland of the Newtyle Forest.

There are tracks for walking or riding through the forest and around the loch.

Directions and parking options for horse riders are available from https://www.morayways.org.uk/routes/loch-romach-and-altyre-estate/ however, if you’re just wanting to walk around the loch, it is possible to park at Phorp,. Please be careful not to block gated entrances.
