Forres walking trail means history is no longer a mystery

A walk to highlight some historical hotspots in the town has been launched in time for the school holidays.

The Mystery History Trail, organised by Forres Heritage Trust, takes in the area around Cluny Hill and features a modern twist to make it more appealing to youngsters who won’t leave their smartphones behind.

A 20-step PDF guides you from the Nelson’s Tower car park on a circular route through Grant Park, up Cluny Hill to Nelson’s Tower, and back again on a different route.

At some of the stops there are QR codes which tell you more about each location. These work by holding your smartphone camera in front of them. Most phones will recognise the code and load more information.

The trail is about a mile (1.5km) long and there plenty of spots along the way to distract you, so allow enough time to take them all in, and take your camera, the Cluny woods are very autumnal at the moment.

See the Forres Heritage Trust website for more information and to download the instructions.
