St Leonard’s Day

6 November 2021 at 11:30 am

Saturday, 6th November, is traditionally known as St. Leonard’s Day.
In Forres we have St Leonard’s Church on the High Street as well as St. Leonard’s Road, Drive and Court.
Less well-known is the fact that Forres also has the hidden remains of a medieval St. Leonard’s chapel tucked away in the bracken near Chapelton Farm.
There will be an informal gathering on the chapel site at 11.30am to hear some legends of St. Leonard and thoughts on the significance of this place from  some local archaeologists.
Furthermore members of Forres Friends of Woods and Fields, the charity that steward this area, will be on hand to tell about the plans for a community vegetable growing project adjacent to the chapel.
Visitors can either walk up to Chapelton from the wooden bridge at the back of the Sanquhar Pond or park in the driveway of the former Leanchoil Hospital, cross the road and walk down the track in front of Chapelton Farmhouse and follow the signs to the chapel. Strong footwear or wellies are advised.
