Grantown: Intermediate Bumblebee Identification

24 August 2022 at 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join Bumblebee Conservation Trust for a morning of Scottish bumblebee identification, followed by afternoon field practice.

Did you know there are 20 different bumblebee species in Scotland?

Join Skills for Bees: Scotland Project Officer, Annie, for a morning of bumblebee identification skills followed by an afternoon field session, practicing your skills in the beautiful setting of Grantown-on-Spey, within the Cairngorms National Park.

We’ll spend the morning in the classroom, building on your journey of bumblebee discovery. You will learn top tips for identifying bumblebee species currently found in Scotland, including the scarce and local species found in the Cairngorms National Park.

After a break for lunch (bring your own), our afternoon session will take your classroom-learned bumblebee identification skills in to the field around Grantown-on-Spey. We will practice your field skills, and talk about how best to record your finds and contribute important scientific data to fill our knowledge gaps about bumblebees in the Cairngorms National Park.

To get the most out of this event, you will have some prior bumblebee knowledge, for example, you may have attended one of our ‘Beginners Bumblebee Identification’ courses. However, this is not essential.
