Forres Repair Café
19 November at 11:00 am - 3:00 pmFree
Bring something to fix and we’ll help you, or just come along to have a pleasant chat about repair, reducing waste and building a resilient local economy over tea and nibbles.
Free entry, with some light food on offer from guest cooks for a modest sum. Any donations are graciously accepted. You’ll find us in the wooden pavilion outside of Forres Community Gardens, accessible via Bogton Road or the A96.
Examples of skills covered:
Mending toys & furniture
Make sure that you bring any necessary connectors, accessories or spare parts with you. For example, if you want to repair a cracked screen then you will need to get a spare part to fit that model. For many common replacement parts iFixit are recommended for quality. If you can’t find it yourself then we can show you how to find one for next time. We may have some basic spare parts like fuses but are unlikely to have anything device-specific.
We are happy to help you learn how to repair. Our skilled volunteers are here to teach, not to perform professional repair work, and Restart Parties are a community self-repair space. As such, you must take responsibility for your own gadgets.
We aim to repair already-broken items and prevent them from going to waste, and if something needs to be dismantled, further damage can be done to fragile parts in that process, so do not bring items that are under warranty, as doing so is likely to void it. Also be aware that the use of hand tools carries with it a risk of injury. If bringing a computing device, make sure to back up your data.
By attending, you agree not to hold the volunteers or organisers liable for any loss or damages incurred as part of this event.
