Caroline Simmill

I am a professional full time artist.  My work is about my emotional response to the atmospheric weather conditions here in the highlands and islands of Scotland. The moors and coastlines are places I tend to draw and paint the most.  The whole experience of being in a very isolated location makes the drama of the subject all the more powerful and exciting to work from.  Visual memory and drawing directly from the subject are all part of the creative process.  The painting is later developed in the peaceful and rural location of my studio in Moray.  I work in both an indirect oil painting style where the painting is gradually built up using layers of opaque and transparent oil paint.  And direct impasto palette knife painting technique.
